Zenfolio | Dave Waddell's Photography | American Kestrel: hovering & flight

25 photos
Here are 25 photos of an American Kestrel hovering and diving. I think in this case insects such as Crickets and Grasshoppers are their target. I am repeatedly amazed and charmed by these tiny 5 ounce titans who are surrounded by such a large world and yet they thrive. They have as beautiful colors as you could dream up given enough time and thought. I have included in these images photographs taken at the actual distance to give you a better perspective of size and distance. It is a wonder and may make you laugh when they bob their heads and look right at you and appear to talk to themselves in annoyance. Imagine that 5 ounce rascal thinks all photographers are a nuisance.....sort of paparazzi....ha....cheers...dave.
