On the day i shot this series of photos of this small owl, there actually were a pair of Short Eared Owls flying and hunting this pasture. They seemed fully aware of each other and had no animosity towards one another......perhaps they were a mated pair. I could not see any difference in coloration nor size so that they might well have been a mated pair.

Also i will state the obvious in saying that these 2 were much different in color to the Owl shown in the Short Eared Owl: Hunting/Flight #1 and #2....perhaps these more colorful birds just had not taken on their winter colors yet....perhaps someone can tell me for certain, although i was pretty sure the short Eared Owl did not come in any color but a variant of Brown and Tan....cheers...dave.
