This little fellow like his bigger brother the Peregrine flushes smaller birds and drives them into the air as high as possible to lull them into thinking they are escaping. The prey bird then gets nervous and dives for cover but before it may reach safety the Merlin who is very fast in a dive overtakes and captures his prey.
